RE: Hyder Municipal Campground
Well, I found the Municipal Campground in Hyder. It is not much to look at, a little overgrown, but acceptable for dry camping. After you enter Hyder, and approach the "T" in the road, turn left and go beyond the Sealaska Inn. After you pass the Laundromat there is a driveway to the right that takes you to a circular shaped open area with picnic tables and a derelict pavilion. There is a sign in the pavillion that refers to the "park", so we are assuming this is the Municipal park. There are no campers present at the moment, but we would have camped there had we found it before committing to 2 nights at Camp Run-A-Muck. For those looking to boondock and save a little money, this camping area appears to be acceptable. Camp Run-A-Muck is a nice campground and we don't regret staying here and would recommend it to those wanting hookups.
Hope this helps!

RE: Hyder Municipal Campground
Thanks for the info. We're in Hyder now, and parked at Run-A-Muck campground. Nice enough and reasonable in price. Free wi-fi which is a plus. We've seen no sign of a municipal campground here either, so the information in the freecampgrounds.com listing must be inaccurate. The bus is definately a must for us as well. We were here 3 years ago, and the food was great then. Three grizzlies were hanging around the observation deck this a.m., hope to see more in the next 2 days. If I find that municipal campground, I'll be sure to post the information.
Thanks again,
Kathy P.
RE: Those annoying decals
Hello everyone,
We have a slightly different problem. Due to sun fading, our wraparound vinyl along the lower half has faded, so our unit looks a little shabby. Does anyone know how to restore the color? Our fiver is 5 years old, but we want to keep it, but also would like it to look nice while driving down the road.
Thanks in advance,
Kathy P.
Hyder Municipal Campground
Hello everyone,
We are headed to Hyder tomorrow, and have found a listing on freecampgrounds.com for a Municipal campground there. Unfortunately, no directions are provided. Is anyone familiar with this campground, and if so, could you please provide its location? Its tough to wander around a small town like Hyder towing a fiver.
Thanks in advance,
Kathy P.
RE: Need info on Alaskan halibut
I took a Halibut charter out of Ninilchek, and had a blast. The crew notched a symbol in the tail to indicate who caught the fish. Then, they cleaned and filleted the fish, and we each took possession of the ones we caught. Cheeks included. I too thought they are overrated, no tastier than the rest of the meat.
I did hear later that the charters out of Homer are cheaper, but nonetheless, it was a great time and I would go out of Ninilchek again in a heartbeat.

RE: On The Road To Alaska
Thanks for the Cassiar updates. Can't wait to enjoy the views and hope to see bears at Hyder. We saw a grizzly along the road today, what a sight! I never tire of seeing the wildlife.
Safe travels everyone!

RE: On The Road To Alaska
Hi everyone,
We too have had a great trip in Alaska this summer. Flylipsdaddy...it was great running into you and Therese at Lake Louise. Its a small world.
We are currently in Tok, and will be making our way south to the Lower 48. Our plan is to drive the Cassiar Hwy. but a number of RV'ers have indicated its in bad shape. We drove it 3 years ago and enjoyed it. For those who used the Cassiar, can you offer some information on its current condition?
Thanks in advance,
Kathy P.
RE: On The Road To Alaska
Thanks for your response ak traveler. We are familiar with the North Pole campground, but prefer not to camp there as it looks like a big gravel parking lot. I thought the poster was referring to a municipal campground that we did not know about.
For travelers heading to Delta Junction, we can recommend the Clearwater Creek campground located about 8 miles off the Alaska Highway, but worth the drive. Nice sites, no hookups, but the real secret is the Clearwater Bar located at the exit. Its more than a bar, the food was outstanding and was recommended to us by the person working in the Delta Junction Visitor Center. As we leave Fairbanks, we will drive that way again just to stop by and dine there again.
Thanks,
Kathy
RE: On The Road To Alaska
We are currently parked at the River View RV Park in Fairbanks. Nice campground with free Wi-fi and RV wash. Park is about 85% full. I'm curious about the town park in the North Pole. Can someone please explain its location?
Thanks,
Kathy
RE: Mackinaw City, MI West via Rte 2
Hi,
Just last week, we drove Hwy. 2 across WI, MN, ND and MT, crossing into Canada north of Shelby, MT. We drove from Escanaba to Bemidji, MN the first day, on to Williston, ND then Havre, Mt, staying at Walmart's all along the way. If you stay in Shelby, MT, there is a nice city campground, called Lake Shilolee or something like that. Great cg, water and electric for $18. The Walmarts in the above cities were RV friendly and easy to find.
Good luck and safe travels.
Kathy
p.s. We're at the 0 Milepost campground in Dawson Creek tonight. This too is a nice campground and inexpensive.
RE: Help! picking a BBQ
Hello,
Maybe you can clarify something for me, I'm so confused. I've noted the Olympian grill offers 12,000 btu's of cooking heat, and the Weber Baby Q only offers 8500 btu's of heat. Do these numbers play a role in the grilling process. I currently have the Coleman Roadtrip grill, which does not seem to heat up enough for good grilling. We just purchased a cheap gas grill and again, it doesn't heat up enough for good searing. I was going to purchase the Weber, but am now concerned that I will end up with another grill that doesn't get hot enough to sear steaks and burgers.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Kathy
Entry Door Gas Strut
Hello everyone,
We toured some new model year 5th wheels today, and noted 2 of the models were equipped with gas struts on the entry doors. What a wonderful idea! However, before we run out to buy and install one, what is the general concensus about this? And, where do you find these to install?
Thanks in advance,
Kathy
